Police shoots alleged arsonist in Calamba City

LUCENA CITY — A suspected arsonist suffered bullet wounds after the policemen he attacked in Calamba City in Laguna province fought back on Tuesday night, Jan. 31.

The police station received a report around 9 p.m. that a man was pouring gasoline in his house in Barangay Paciano Rizal, the Region 4A police reported Wednesday, Feb. 1.

The responding police team arrived at the house of suspect Jhoseph Serrano and smelled gasoline inside.

The cops entered the house and tried to pacify Serrano. But instead of heeding the plea, the suspect stabbed two of the cops, who were able to evade the attack.

Another policeman, Staff Sergeant Catolos, drew his service firearm and shot Serrano on his left chest and arm.

The wounded suspect was taken to JP Rizal Hospital for treatment.

Serrano, who is under hospital arrest, is facing criminal charges.
