Don't buy frozen eggs, warns DOH

MANILA, Philippines — With the price of fresh eggs on the rise, the Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday issued a warning against purchasing frozen eggs because of the risk of bacteria contamination.

At a news conference, DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire warned about the potential dangers of using frozen eggs.

(When the egg is subjected to extremes of temperature, it can breed organisms that can be harmful to our body. There are specific bacteria that can easily contaminate the egg.)

(That’s why we are giving notice and guidance to our countrymen that these frozen eggs can harm your health.)

Vergeire further explained that while not all eggs may be contaminated once frozen, the risk of contamination will always be there.

“So iwasan po natin ano, let us sell these fresh eggs para po ‘yun pong kinakain ng ating kababayan ay maging healthy pa rin,” said Vergeire.

(So let’s avoid that, let us sell these fresh eggs so that what our countrymen eat will still be healthy.)
