BACOLOD CITY — The Armando Sumayang Jr. Command of the New People’s Army (ASJC-NPA) on Monday, Jan. 30, claimed responsibility for the Jan. 28 killing of a landowner in Ilog town, Negros Occidental.
Andrea Guerrero, ASJC-NPA spokesperson, said Silas Vargas Granada was an intelligence man of the Armed Forces of the Philippines who had taken over the land of the poor in Sitio Tigas, Barangay Pinggot.
The NPA also alleged that Granada’s father had similarly taken over the land in the 1970s.
Granada, 65, was shot to death at 8 p.m. on Saturday A group of about 30 unidentified armed men with high powered firearms visited Granada’s house and shot him on the head several times resulting in his death.
The police said the NPA also killed the father of Granada over a land dispute in the past.
