ORMOC CITY — A spinner dolphin died Saturday after being found on the shores of Barangay Kilim, Baybay City.
Angeli Vidal, staff member of the city’s Coastal Resources Fisheries Management Office, said the dolphin measured 1.65 meters in length and weighed 60 to 80 kilograms.
The dolphin was stranded due to huge waves and could not swim back into the deep.
The dolphin was brought to a marine laboratory for rehab but was declared dead on arrival at about 6 p.m.
Irish Belmonte from Ormoc fisheries assisted Vidal in examining the dolphin.
A necropsy of the dolphin was set this week to determine the dolphin’s cause of death before it is buried.
