MANILA, Philippines — With only 10 of his 20 priority bills passed at the House of Representatives, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met with Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and Speaker Martin Romualdez on Friday.
In a statement, Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil said that the President met with the two leaders of Congress “to catch up on the administration’s legislative agenda and plans for 2023.”
Citing data from the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office, Garafil said that as of Jan. 18, 10 out of the 20 priority legislative bills laid out by the President during his State of the Nation Address last year have been passed by the House of Representatives and transmitted to the Senate.
These bills include the following:
- Tax Package 4: Passive Income and Financial Intermediary Taxation Act
- Government Financial Institutions Unified Initiatives to Distressed Enterprises for Economic Recovery Bill
- Tax Package 3: Real Property Valuation and Assessment Reform Act
- Internet Transaction Act or the E-Commerce Law
- Condonation of Unpaid Amortization and Interests of Loans of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries
The House has also approved on final reading the creation of the Medical Reserve Corps, Philippine Centers for Disease Prevention and Control, and the Virology Institute of the Philippines, an amendment to the Build-Operate-Transfer Law and the National Service Training Program Act.
