Driver who hit 4 motorcyclists in Cavite nabbed

LUCENA CITY — A 70-year-old driver was arrested on Sunday after he hit four motorcyclists in Dasmariñas City.

Lieutenant Colonel Juan Peñafiel Oruga Jr., Dasmariñas police chief, identified in a report Tuesday, Jan. 24, the arrested suspect as Martin Ancheta of Bacoor City.

The report said police apprehended Ancheta after they traced the registered owner of the vehicle that hit the motorcyclists.

He was released from police custody after all concerned parties agreed to settle the matter amicably.

The four victims were riding their respective motorcycles at an intersection of the Aguinaldo Highway and Daño Street when a white Hi-Ace Commuter van hit them, said Cavite 4th District Rep. Elpidio Barzaga in a Facebook post on Jan. 23.

The victims were waiting for the traffic signal to turn left when the van suddenly emerged from behind and rammed the four riders, who were all thrown from their vehicles. The van sped off after the incident, an initial investigation showed.

The victims, who were not wearing crash helmets, suffered injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital.

Barzaga offered a P25,000 reward to those who could give information that would lead to the arrest of the driver of the van.

As of Wednesday morning, Jan. 25, the lawmaker has yet to disclose who will receive the reward after the driver was arrested.
