MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3) registered its highest number of daily passengers in more than two years at 396,345, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Wednesday.
The DOTr also said the figure was recorded on Friday, January 20, and that it was the highest record since July 1, 2020.
“Bago nito, nasa kabuuang 389,036 pasahero ang pinakamataas na naiulat ng MRT-3 na sumakay ng linya, sa kasagsagan ng pagpapatupad ng Libreng Sakay noong Hunyo 2022,” the DOTr said in a statement.
(Prior to this, MRT-3 reported the highest ridership of 389,036 passengers in that train line, at the height of the Free Ride implementation in June 2022.)
According to the DOTr, the achievement may be attributed to the MRT-3 management’s “proper maintenance and rehabilitation of the line’s wagons and subsystems” despite the COVID-19 pandemic which heavily affected the train line’s ridership.
“Patunay po ang patuloy na pagtangkilik ng ating mga pasahero sa mas mabuting serbisyong ating pinupursiging ibigay sa kanila sa araw-araw,” MRT-3 General Manager Engr. Federico Canar Jr. said in the same statement.
(The continued patronage of our passengers is proof of the better service we strive to provide them on a daily basis.)
“Asahan po ninyong patuloy pang pagbubutihin ang serbisyo ng MRT-3 upang mas marami pang pasahero ang makaranas ng ligtas, komportable, at maaasahang biyahe sa ating linya,” he added.
(Expect MRT-3 to continuously improve its service so more passengers will experience a safe, comfortable, and reliable ride in our train line.)
