LIGAO CITY — The Department of Agriculture (DA) has recorded P81,107,222 in agricultural losses in the entire Bicol after the region experienced days of incessant rains brought by the shear line and low-pressure area from December 18, 2022, to January 23.
“Due to flooding, about 1,621 metric tons in volume of losses covering 5,129 hectares of rice fields with 3,962 farmers were affected,” Lovella Guarin, DA Bicol information officer, told Inquirer in a chat message Tuesday, Jan. 24.
In Catanduanes province, the livestock that drowned due to the floods that were triggered by the bad weather corresponded to P584,250 in losses, Guarin said.

She said affected farmers will receive “immediate assistance including rice, corn and vegetable seeds, drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry needs.”
She said farmers who are registered with Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture and whose farms are insured with Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation can also file for indemnification by submitting their damage report to their respective Municipal Agriculturist. — Michael B. Jaucian
