5 cops affected by flood in Eastern Samar receive financial aid
TACLOBAN CITY — Five policemen from the town of Jipapad in Eastern Samar received financial assistance from Eastern Visayas’ top police official after their houses were damaged by the massive flooding early this month.
Brigadier Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil personally went to the town’s police station on Monday, Jan. 23, and handed over food packs and P10,000 cash to each of the affected policemen.
Marbil praised the local police for continuing to provide assistance to the residents though they are also affected by the calamity.
He said the act of the police was a testament to the organization’s mission which is “to serve and protect” the community.
Capt. Bermodo Gulo III, the town’s police chief, expressed his gratitude for the visit of Marbil, the first police regional director to visit Jipapad, one of the remote municipalities of Eastern Samar.
Gov. Ben Evardone also visited the towns affected by the floods.
Among the towns he visited for the relief operations were Can-avid, Taft and Sulat.
Evardone said that he could have just sent the food aids to the flood victims but chose to personally visit the affected villages for him to see and check the condition of the affected families.
The governor has placed Eastern Samar under state of calamity on Jan. 13 due to the damage it sustained due to the floods spawned by a low pressure area and a shear line experienced by the province.
The provincial disaster risk reduction management office pegged the damage sustained by the province to at least P226 million.
