Bill converting Carmona municipality into city hurdles Senate on 2nd reading

MANILA, Philippines — The Senate approved on second reading a measure seeking to convert the municipality of Carmona in Cavite into a component city.

During the plenary session on Tuesday, the Senate gave the nod on House Bill No. 3968, or the Charter of the City of Carmona.

“The Municipality of Carmona shall be converted into a component city to be known as the City of Carmona, hereinafter referred to as the City, which shall comprise the present jurisdiction of the Municipality of Carmona, Province of Cavite,” the bill stated.

“The territorial jurisdiction of the City shall be within the present metes and bounds of the Municipality of Carmona,” it added.

All senators were made co-sponsors of the measure.

The bill emanated from the lower chamber and was principally authored by Cavite 5th District Representative Roy Loyola.

The measure was green-lighted by the House of Representatives on final reading on September 5 last year. It was then transmitted and received by the Senate on September 6, 2022.
