MANILA, Philippines — “That’s the problem that makes me unable to sleep — this inflation. That’s what I lose sleep every night over is how to bring down inflation,” President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said in a panel interview on Monday.
“So I’m determined to bring down, to make sure that the inflation starts to come down in the first quarter and things will normalize after that,” he added, speaking in a mix of English and Filipino.
Inflation in the Philippines went up even higher at 8.1 percent in December 2022 from 8 percent in November.
This brought the full-year average to 5.8 percent.
Inflation in December was the highest since November 2008 and was more than twice as high as the 3.1 percent recorded in December 2021.
During his recent trip to Davos, Switzerland, Marcos also said the tension in the disputed South China Sea has kept him up “at night, at day, and most of the time.”
