MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday said “we’ll find something” that former social welfare chief Erwin Tulfo “can do” as he hopes the latter can still be part of his administration.

Questions about Tulfo’s citizenship and a libel conviction led to the Commission on Appointments not confirming his nomination as Social Welfare Secretary twice, resulting in this event.

Marcos said his administration should “take advantage of his good instincts when it comes to social service.”

At a panel interview, Marcos was asked whether Tulfo would remain in his administration, to which he replied: “I hope so. Whatever we say, even with the difficulty he faced at the CA, the time he was running the DSWD, he did a very good job, so we can’t lose that kind of asset.”

“So we’ll find something that he can do so we can take advantage of his good instincts when it comes to social service,” he added.

Marcos, however, made it clear that Tulfo would not be appointed as presidential adviser.

“No, that’s really not been part of the plan for Erwin. We have other plans for him, not as presidential adviser,” he said.
