CITY OF CALAPAN — The town of Naujan in Oriental Mindoro province was placed under a state of calamity on Monday (Jan. 23) following the damage it suffered due to the widespread flooding spawned by the northeast monsoon and the shear line.
The Sangguniang Bayan passed a resolution containing the declaration during its special meeting on Monday morning.
Mayor Henry Joel Teves requested the passage of the resolution on Sunday after the municipal disaster risk reduction and management council recommended it, citing the effects of the continuous rains on the livelihood, infrastructure and agriculture of the town.
In a text message on Monday afternoon, Joery Geroleo, municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer, told the Inquirer at least 5,945 households were affected by the floods.
He said the damage to agriculture was initially pegged at P77,832,739 while the damage to infrastructure reached P140,641,500. INQ
