JAEN, Nueva Ecija — A 63-year-old contractor-engineer who was developing a gasoline station here survived a gun attack by unidentified men on Saturday, Jan. 21.
In a report Sunday, Jan. 22, police said the victim Ramir dela Cruz was eating lunch with two other people in a tent on the lot he owned where he was building the gas station in Barangay (village) Sapang shortly before 11 a.m. when the suspects suddenly opened fired using a still unspecified caliber of a gun.
“As a result, the victim sustained injury,” police reported. Dela Cruz was taken to a hospital in Cabanatuan City.
The suspects fled, according to police. It was the second gun attack in this town in less than a month.
On December 27, 2022, municipal councilor Santy Matias was also hurt in an ambush staged by riding-in-tandem gunmen.
Dela Cruz was one of four candidates for mayor of this town in the last elections. Reelectionist Mayor Sylvia Austria won in the said polls.
