LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Police authorities said they uprooted and destroyed marijuana plants worth P4.7 million cultivated in different plantation sites in the provinces of Ilocos Sur and Benguet.

In a report on Thursday (January 19), Brig. Gen. John Chua, police regional office 1 director, said a total of 20,500 fully grown marijuana plants and five kilograms of dried marijuana were discovered in plantations with a total area of 3,280 square meters during a joint operation of Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Chua added that the plantation sites were discovered at the borders of Sitio (sub-village) Nagawa, Barangay (village) Caoayan, Sugpon in Ilocos Sur, and Sitio Culiang, Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan in Benguet.

The raiding team also found marijuana plantations in Sitio Nakneng and Sitio Nagawa of Barangay Caoayan in Sugpon, and Sitio Culiang, Barangay Tacadang in Kibungan.

“The uprooting and destruction of these marijuana plants are already good feats. I am so glad that we have identified the cultivators here, in that way, their arrest would be made easier once warrants were already given,” according to Chua. INQ
