Leyte mayor’s brother nabbed for illegal firearms

A 13-year-old girl was placed under the custody of the social welfare office of Carigara town, Leyte after she fired a still unknown type of firearm inside their school on Monday, Jan. 16.

ORMOC CITY — Criminal Investigation and Detective Group (CIDG) operatives arrested Thursday two persons during a raid on two houses owned by a businessman and brother of a slain municipal administrator in San Isidro town, Leyte.

Emmanuel Balmoria Veloso, 67, and Mark Rio Martinez Castillo, 45, did not resist arrest.

Judge Carlos Arguelles of the Regional Trial Court Branch 14 in Baybay City, Leyte, issued a search warrant against Veloso for illegal possession of firearms.

Veloso is the younger brother of Juanita Veloso, the former municipal administrator of San Isidro, Leyte, and the brother of Mayor Remedio Veloso of San Isidro.

Castillo served as a caretaker of the house.

Recovered from Veloso’s house were two guns and assorted ammunition.

The two suspects were brought to the CIDG-Eastern Visayas in Tacloban City for proper disposition.
