MANILA, Philippines — San Juan, La Union, often known as the “surfing capital of the northern Philippines,” has a newly constructed P29-million flood prevention structure, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Friday.
The DPWH announced the completion of the seawall project in Barangay Taboc, San Juan, La Union, on their official Facebook page. It said the seawall would protect locals from waves during extreme rainfall and weather.
It is also expected to provide more convenient access for tourists, residents, and motorists visiting the shore.
DPWH La Union First District Engineering Office was in charge of the project, which included building a 155-meter wall and installing solar street lights.
Earlier on Jan. 11, the construction of a P49-million slope protection structure along the San Fernando-Bagulin Road, La Union was also completed, as reported by DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan.
