MANILA, Philippines — Forty-two aftershocks have been recorded in Davao Occidental following the 7.0-magnitude earthquake off the province on Wednesday afternoon (January 18).
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) told INQUIRER.net that the smaller quakes were logged from 5:39 p.m. on Wednesday up to 7 a.m. on Thursday.
However, none of the aftershocks were felt, according to the NDRRMC.
Based on a bulletin of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), two 4.2-magnitude smaller tremors were recorded a few hours after the main earthquake offshore. It also noted that aftershocks of 4.6- and 4.5-magnitude followed.

At 2:55 a.m. on Thursday, a magnitude 4.3 temblor was logged, and subsequently, two 4.2-magnitude quakes. The latest smaller tremor was recorded at 4:57 a.m., Phivolcs said.
State seismologists added that the epicenters of the aftershocks were located in the waters away from the coast of Davao Occidental province.
Around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck off Davao Occidental. The quake had a depth of 64 kilometers and was located 352 kilometers southeast of Sarangani town.
It was measured at Intensity 2 in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Glan and Kiamba towns in Sarangani; Tupi, Santo Niño, Ti’boli, and Koronadal City in South Cotabato; and General Santos City, and Intensity 1 in Kidapawan City, Cotabato; Maitum and Maasim towns in Sarangani; Tantangan, Lake Sebu, Tampakan, Suralla, and Norala in South Cotabato; and Zamboanga City.
The quake was likewise felt in the North Sulawesi province of Indonesia.
