Bulusan volcano now at normal alert level — Phivolcs

MANILA, Philippines —Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon province has returned to its normal alert level, state seismologists said on Wednesday.

With this development, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has lowered the classification of the volcano from Alert Level 1 (low level of unrest) to Alert Level 0 or normal level.

“Phivolcs is now lowering the alert status of Bulusan from Alert Level 1 to Alert Level 0,” the Phivolcs said in its advisory.

“This means observational parameters have returned to baseline or background levels and no magmatic eruption is foreseen in the future,” it added.

The frequency of volcanic earthquakes has also declined to the baseline level of 0-5 tremors a day since the first week of December 22.

Also, the sulfur dioxide flux from the volcano has remained at the baseline level since October 2022.

However, Phivolcs has reminded the public that entry into the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone should be avoided.
