LIGAO CITY — Gov. Ricarte Padilla ordered the suspension of work and classes in the province after a 4.8-magnitude earthquake on Tuesday, Jan. 17, rocked Camarines Norte.
In an advisory, Padilla said classes at all levels, both private and public, were canceled in anticipation of aftershocks.
He also suspended work in government offices on Tuesday, but work cancelation in private establishments is left at the discretion of their heads.
Padilla also ordered the inspection of all buildings and rapid damage assessment for safety.
In a bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake hit at 5:57 a.m., with its epicenter located 12 kilometers southeast of Tinaga Island in Vinzons town.
The tectonic earthquake had a depth of focus of one kilometer, Phivolcs added.
The earthquake registered up to Intensity V on the Richter scale in Camarines Norte and was felt in Metro Manila.
The authorities cautioned the public to expect damage and aftershocks.
