Batanes cop returns P15K sent mistakenly to his mobile wallet
MANILA, Philippines — A Batanes policeman garnered widespread acclaim on social media for his commitment to doing the right thing: He returned P15,000, which was mistakenly sent to his GCash account.
Police Staff Sergeant Anselmo Gari Jr. was surprised to learn that his GCash account received the amount from a user identified as Rose from Quezon City last January 5, according to a post on Sabtang Police Station’s Facebook page on Thursday.
Gari provided a screenshot of their Facebook chat showing the woman confirming that the money was credited mistakenly.
The policeman then immediately returned the amount to Rose’s GCash account.
Rose thanked Gari for his honesty.
“Salamat sir nang marami, sana pagpalain ka ng diyos… (Thank you so much, I hope God would bless you),” the woman also said.
Readers of the page’s comments echoed these praises to Gari.
“My snappy salute to you,” said a Facebook commenter.
Another user said: “We need more police officers like Anselmo.”
