MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) registered 128 new cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
According to the DOH’s latest biosurveillance report from January 3 to 9, 52 confirmed Omicron cases were infected with the BA.2.3.20 subvariant, 28 were XBB, 13 were XBC, 10 were BA.5, while one was infected with a BA.2.75 subvariant.
The DOH also recorded 24 other omicron cases with no lineage specified.
Almost all infections were local cases, with only five from international travelers.
Meanwhile, the DOH also recorded one local case of the delta variant of COVID-19.
Based on the report, the BA.5 subvariant remains the dominant strain in the country, with a total of 12,658 cases recorded.
The BA.2.3.20 followed second, with a total of 3,881 cases. The XBB subvariant, meanwhile, accounted for 949 of the total cases; 610 were XBC, 38 were BA.2.7.5, and BQ.1 subvariant accounted for 19 of the cases.
The least dominant strains were the Omicron BF.7 and BN. 1 subvariant, recorded in seven and four cases, respectively.
As of Jan. 10, the country currently has 11,856 active COVID-19 infections, based on the DOH’s online COVID-19 tracker.
