MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said he had ordered the release of more than P3 million to repair school buildings in Misamis Oriental that were damaged by recent floods.

He issued the remark in a situation briefing in Misamis Oriental, as he assured local government units in the province that help is on the way.

“If the LGUs can take the load, we can send you the three million plus immediately. Kasi ito ‘yung nakalista dito, for the school buildings,” he said in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.

(This is what is listed here for the school buildings.)

“I’m talking about the school buildings for the repair. Yeah do it. By administration na lang para mas mabilis. Mas mabilis and mas mura,” he added.

(Do it by the administration to be faster and cheaper.)

Marcos said 63 classrooms were flooded due to the downpour caused by the shear line affecting Mindanao.

The President also instructed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to expedite the repair of damaged infrastructure once the floodings have subsided.

Marcos said that damage to the province’s school buildings must also be looked into.

During the briefing, the local government of Gingoog reported that the number of families has risen to 18,452, while forty-five out of 59 barangays have been affected.

Villagers residing in the coastal areas incurred the most damage.
