SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — The weekly COVID-19 positivity rate in the province increased after the holiday season, according to independent pandemic monitor OCTA Research.
Citing data from the Department of Health, OCTA research said the province posted a 1.5-percent increase in its COVID-positivity rate between Dec. 31 and Jan. 7.
Data showed that the province registered an 8.4-percent positivity rate on Jan. 7, higher than the 6.9 percent it recorded the previous week.
The virus positivity rate refers to the percentage of tests that turn out positive.
On Dec. 26, a day after Christmas, the province’s weekly COVID-19 positivity rate stood at 11.7 percent, down from 14.4 percent tallied a week ago.
As of Monday, Jan. 9, the province had 19 active COVID-19 infections after recording two new cases.
Since 2020, Zambales registered 12,652 COVID-19 cases, but 11,898 recovered. Its death toll related to the disease stood at 735. INQ
