10 injured on San Miguel Ave.-Shaw Blvd. multiple vehicle crash

A couple died after their motorcycle collided with a car along the national road in Nungnungan village here on Tuesday (July 26), police said.

UPDATED MANILA, Philippines — Ten individuals were injured after a collision of 12 vehicles in Mandaluyong City, said the Eastern Police District on Tuesday.

The EPD, in a police report, said that the incident occurred at 8:32 in the morning at Shaw Boulevard corner San Miguel Ave. Barangay Wack Wack, Mandaluyong City.

Initial investigation showed that one vehicle — a Toyota land cruiser, SUV — was heading towards One San Miguel Avenue, Pasig City when it hit two motorcycles.

The said SUV hit another motorcycle, another SUV, and a street light post while passing the Intersection of Shaw Blvd and San Miguel Avenue.

The EPD said the vehicle then reversed, even after the collision, hitting another motorcycle with two passengers, then crossed San Miguel St. (southbound) in Mandaluyong City, where it again caused multiple collisions with several other vehicles.

So far, the EPD counted 10 victims due to the collisions, all of which were brought to Rizal Medical Center and Mandaluyong Medical Center.

Meanwhile, the driver and the passenger of the land cruiser — identified as Roldan Jose Marie Elizagaque and Varga Litog Dominador — were arrested before being brought to the Mandaluyong Medical Center for physical examination.

They were then sent to the Land Transportation Office East Avenue for an alcohol test.

According to EPD, the investigation of the incident is still ongoing.

According to a report from the DZBB, While the vehicles have been impounded, the area remains cordoned off for authorities to clean up broken glass and spilled gasoline.

It is still unclear whether the accident was deliberate or resulted from a mechanical malfunction.
