GINEBRA’S crack guard Mike Cortez and Meralco’s high scoring wingman Macmac Cardona shared the PBA Player of the Week citation for the period of March 26 to April 1 after their scintillating performances in their teams’ crucial wins this past week.
It was the second time that Cardona received the award while Cortez earned his second this season as the former La Salle teammates proved their respective worth to their squads.
The man known as “Captain Hook” sizzled on the hardcourt with averages of 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists as the Bolts won over Powerade and B-Meg.
Cortez had his own impressive numbers of 16.5 points, 8.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in Ginebra’s triumphs over Air21 and B-Meg that gave the Kings the second and last automatic semifinals berth.
Cardona put on a show against the Tigers as he had 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists to lead them to a 102-98 win. He returned just two days later to pump in 22 points on top of nine rebounds and four feeds in the Bolts’ 103-81 victory over B-Meg at the start of their best-of-three series./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
