Army's 9th Infantry Division in Bicol has new commander

LEGAZPI CITY — Army Maj. General Adonis Bajao has assumed his post as the new commander of 9th Infantry (Spear) Division based at Camp Elias Angeles in Pili town in Camarines Sur province.

During the turnover ceremony on Sunday (Jan. 8), which was led by Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner, Philippine Army commander, Bajao vowed to end the insurgency and maintain peace and order in the Bicol region.

Bajao also said he would strengthen various institutions in the local community, including the civilian sector, that are active partners of the military.

The 9th ID was previously headed by Brig. Gen. Jaime Abawag Jr., who served as its acting commander and who eventually returned to his post as assistant division commander.

The new 9th ID commander was a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy’s “Makatao” Class of 1989.

He also obtained his Master’s degree in Public Management at the Development Academy of the Philippines and his doctorate in Public Administration at the University of the Philippines.

Prior to his new assignment, he was the assistant chief of staff for Civil-Military Operations of the 8th Infantry Division, commander of the 1002nd Infantry Brigade, and the internal auditor of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. INQ
