LUCENA CITY — A 19-year-old woman was killed and six others were injured Sunday after being hit by a car at the Maharlika highway in this city.
The Quezon police reported on Monday, Jan. 9, that Niño Arvin Saculles, 40, a bank employee, was driving a Toyota Fortuner on his way home at 2:30 p.m., when he hit Kristine Advincula and John Michael Manlugon, 16.
The two were on the roadside and about to cross the highway in Barangay Isabang.
Advincula suffered grave injuries and died on the spot. Manlugon, who suffered a leg injury, was rushed to the hospital.
Saculles and his passengers, Devina Manalo, a house helper and his three children, aged 6, 5, and 2, also suffered injuries and were brought to the hospital for treatment.
Saculles reportedly admitted to investigators that he fell asleep, lost control of the vehicle, and was awakened only by the crash.
The driver was subjected to the mandatory alcohol breath analyzer. He was placed under police custody and is facing criminal charges. INQ
