MANILA, Philippines — The combined effects of the trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) and the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” will bring rain to parts of the country on Monday, according to a Sunday advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa said there will be moderate to heavy rain in Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, and Misamis Oriental.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rain will fall in the Western Visayas, Davao Region, the rest of Caraga, and the rest of Northern Mindanao.

Pagasa said the low pressure area exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday evening and though it might reenter in the following days, it was unlikely to develop into a tropical depression.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will bring scattered rain and cold temperatures in the eastern parts of Luzon.

Pagasa advised the public and concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices to take precautionary safety measures for possible hazards.

“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” Pagasa said.
