MANILA, Philippines — The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) on Thursday issued a public alert on a 2018 copy of a US Department of Homeland Security (US DHS) advisory on insufficient security at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia).

“The OTS wishes to clarify that the photo containing a public advisory from the United States Department of Homeland Security (US DHS) noting the inadequate security at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, and circulating on social media, was an old advisory issued in December 2018, and has since been removed from airports in the US,” the OTS said in a statement.

According to the OTS, Philippine airport authorities have already been working together with the US and other foreign counterparts to improve the overall status of security at the country’s international gateways.

It even explained that in August 2022, the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) commended the OTS and other Philippine airport authorities for maintaining adequate security measures during a joint security assessment.

The OTS and US TSA have also discussed joint security initiatives to enhance aviation security in the Philippines and the US. The OTS likewise secured a donation of additional security screening equipment, as well as a pledge from the US government for capability enhancement and training assistance.
