Classes in Oriental Mindoro town suspended due to rains

CITY OF CALAPAN — Classes in all levels, in public and private schools, in Baco town, Oriental Mindoro province were suspended Wednesday, Jan. 4, due to floods triggered by the northeast monsoon and low pressure area.

Mayor Allan Roldan issued Memorandum Order No 001-2023, addressed to “all public and private schools for cancellation and suspension of classes in all levels” at 11:21 a.m.

“There had been persistent heavy rainfall that had been causing floods in various communities in Baco,” said Roldan in his memo.

Roldan cited Department Order number 37, series of 2022 on “Guidelines and Cancellation and Suspension of classes and work in school in the event of disaster and other natural calamities.”

As of 2:31 p.m., the operations division of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said that in its monitoring, water level in Alag and Longos Rivers have reached its critical level.
