14-year-old boy dies in fire in Calbayog City

ORMOC CITY — A 14-year-old boy died in a fire of still unknown origin in Purok 5, Barangay Capoocan, Calbayog City, Samar at about 1:48 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan 4.

Senior Insp. Jimmy Pasague, Calbayog fire marshal, identified the fatality as Lou Renz Bacsal, a student of the Calbayog City National High school.

Bacsal’s mother, who is a nurse, was on duty in one of the hospitals in Calbayog when the fire occurred.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Winnie Bartolome, case investigator, said they were still conducting an investigation to find out what caused the fire.

According to witnesses, the fire started in the room of one Michael Montes.

Bartolome said Bacsal’s body was found inside his room.

Investigators believed that the victim died of suffocation because he did not have any burns in his body.

The fire was controlled at about 2:26 a.m. and was totally put out at 2: 55 a.m. Damage was pegged at P720, 000.
