MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the license of the jeepney driver who bumped a woman crossing the pedestrian lane in Parañaque City.
The LTO said driver Leonilo Aque received a 90-day preventive suspension of his license.
“Kasunod ito ng pag-amin ng drayber ng jeep na si Leonilo Aque na nabundol nito ang babaeng tumatawid matapos na hindi agad makapagpreno,” the LTO said in a statement released by the Department of Transportation on Tuesday.
(This follows the confession of the jeep driver, Leonilo Aque, that he bumped the woman who was crossing after not being able to hit the brakes immediately.)
It can be recalled that the LTO summoned Aque through a show cause order last December 28, 2022, for allegedly violating Department of Transportation and Communications Joint Administrative Order 2014-01 or Failure to Yield Right of Way for Pedestrian Crossing and Republic Act 4136 in relation to reckless driving and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.

After the show cause order and the investigation of its Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) office, the LTO then ordered Aque to surrender his driver’s license.
The case against Aque stemmed from a closed-circuit television or CCTV video of he incident.
LTO chief Jose Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade issued a reminder to motorists, especially drivers of public transport, that it is within their responsibility to keep the roads safe.
“Hawak ng isang drayber ng pampasaherong sasakyan hindi lamang ang kanyang sariling buhay at ng kanyang mga pasahero kundi maging ng mga tao na nasa kalsada. Kung hindi magiging maingat at hindi ire-respeto ang pedestrian lane, ilalagay nito sa alanganin ang ibang tao tulad ng nangyari sa Parañaque City,” he said.
(A public transportation driver holds not only his own life and that of his passengers but also the people on the road. If you are not careful and do not respect the pedestrian lane, it will put other people in danger like what happened in Parañaque City.)
