Man, daughter drown in La Union beach

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte—A father and his daughter drowned during a post-Christmas family outing on Monday (Dec. 26) at a beach in Baccuit Sur village in Bauang, La Union province, police said.
In a belated report Wednesday, police identified the victims as 67-year-old George Gines and Geosa Gines-Osillo, 26. They were both residents of Baguio City.
The tragedy began when the two were swimming with other members of their family at around 4 p.m. and Osillo was suddenly swept away by big waves, according to the police.
His father tried to rescue her but was caught by the strong currents and drowned in a deep portion of the waters, the police said, citing witnesses.
They were rushed to the Ilocos Training Regional and Medical Center but were declared dead on arrival, the police added. INQ
