Shear line, northeast monsoon keep most of PH raining

Most parts of PH to still experience rain due to shear line, northeast monsoon

MANILA, Philippines — Rain will continue to pour over most parts of the Philippines on Monday due to the shear line and the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the shear line is the convergence of cold and warm winds.

“Nakakaranas po ng maulan na panahon sa malaking bahagi ng Kabisayaan, sa ilang lalawigan ng Mindanao at kasama na rin ang lalawigan ng Palawan. ‘Yan po ay dulot ng shear line,” Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said during the public weather forecast.

(A huge part of Visayas, some provinces in Mindanao, and Palawan are experiencing rainy weather. That’s due to the shear line.)

“Nakakaranas po ng malamig na simoy ng hangin na may kasamang pag-ulan sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon dahil sa napakalakas na amihan,” he added.

(A cool wind with rain is being felt over a large part of Luzon because of the strong northeast monsoon.)

The shear line is bringing overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan, Visayas, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Caraga.

On the other hand, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region will have cloudy skies with rains brought by the northeast monsoon.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Mindanao will have fair weather.

Pagasa also maintained its gale warnings over most of the country’s seaboards because of the strong northeast monsoon. Gale warning were still raised over the coasts of the following areas:

Pagasa further said it is not monitoring any low pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility.
