ANTI-BULLYING CAMPAIGN
A PRIVATE school in Lapu-lapu City launched the first anti-bullying campaign in Cebu on March 24.
The idea was coined by the administrator of the Sto. Niño Mactan Montessori School, Sunshine Barcelo-Lim, and officials of the Department of Education after a seven-year-old boy died after being bullied and pushed to the sea early this month.
During the launching of the event, dubbed as PAGMATNGON, a symposium and parenting talk were held.
Among the speakers were Dr. Marcial Degamo of the Department of Education Region VII, Mr. Martin Sentina, a psychology professor and a guidance counselor and Atty. Joan Largo.
The talks promoted awareness about bullying, identification and manifestations of a bully and being bullied, proper interventions to prevent bullying, acceptance from parents as well as the legal obligations of parents.
Article continues after this advertisementThe audience, composed of the parents, representatives from other schools and other stakeholders were given a chance to air their queries in open forum.
Article continues after this advertisementAlso during the event, there were musical presentations by the students together with some renowned choral groups in Cebu namely the SEEDS, HUNI and the talented scholars of Sto. Nino Mactan Montessori School.

MAN SHOT IN LAPU
A 23-YEAR-OLD man was shot by an unidentified assailant in barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City.
Jason Tejana survived the roadside shooting but sustained two gunshot wounds in the back.
Witnesses told police that Tejana was standing at the side of the road when a man, who was earlier seen disembarking from a taxi, shot him with a .45 pistol.
A wounded Tejana ran but was chased by the assailant then shot again.
Tejana ran inside the house owned by a certain fiscal Baring, who helped bring the victim to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital. The victim was later moved to a hospital in Cebu City.
Police said the assailant escaped on board a motorcycle driven by an accomplice.
Police recovered two empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol in the area.
Police said it was learned that Tejana was accused of stealing cable wires owned by a telecommunications company./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
