MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on Sunday shared the three Christmas virtues to live a peaceful life: “love, forgiveness and sharing.”
Duterte said this as she attended her family’s traditional Christmas gift-giving event at the ancestral house of former President Rodrigo Duterte along Taal Road in Central Park Subdivision, Davao City.
In her message, the vice president emphasized the three virtues of Christmas for people to live a peaceful life — love, forgiveness, and sharing.
“Una, ang pasko ay para sa paghigugmaay or love. Dili kinahanglan na dagko atong mga regalo. Ang importante sa pasko, ay malipay ang kasing-kasing sa atong mga minahal sa kinabuhi,” Duterte said.
(First, Christmas is for love. Our gifts don’t have to be big. The important thing about Christmas is to make our loved ones happy.)
“Ikaduha, pagpasaylo or forgiveness. Karong adlawa gianak ang atong Lord Jesus Christ. Ang mensahe Niya, mangayo ta ug pasaylo sa Ginoo. Mao pud na ang tema sa pasko,” she added.
(Second, forgiveness. Today our Lord Jesus Christ was born. His message is, let’s ask the Lord for forgiveness. That is also the theme of Christmas.)
She then shared that “sharing” is the third virtue of Christmas.
According to Duterte, these virtues will lead people to live in peace because people forgive and share, especially to those who are not able to receive anything in this season.
The said event has been a tradition in Davao, starting even before former President Duterte’s term as the country’s chief executive in 2016.
