Tans lead winners in NAGT

The Tans are slowly making a name in the triathlon scene after they won their respective divisions in the National Age Group Triathlon 2012 Series yesterday at the Plantation Bay Resort and Spa.

Leading the charge for the Tans victory was 18-year-old Rochelle Tan, who ruled the female 16-19 category with a time of two hours, 19 minutes and 46 seconds despite making a mistake in the race.

Rochelle, who also won in the Filipino elite category of the Xterra tirathlon series last month, initially run one loop of the required two after she was misinformed by a marshal.

The marshal made up for the mistake and brought Tan to the area with his motorcycle so she could continue her second loop.

The move would have disqualified Tan. But organizers decided to forego the lapse because it was the marshal who made her ride the motorcycle. Tan also completed the second loop.

Rochelle’s father Tyrone said that if the disqualification had pushed through, they would have not contested the decision.

Rochelle also topped the 5k category of the Xterra trail run last March 17.

Tyrone Tan dominated the male 40-44 after crossing the finish line with a time of 1:56:15 while her brother Rainier combined efforts with John Arriola and Mary Joy Tabal to rule the relay division with a time of 1:51:24.

Last Saturday, her younger brother Rafael also placed third in the SuperTriKids.

In the female 20-29, Hannah Galo lorded over comebacking triathlete Louie Villacin. Galo clocked 2:15:15 while Villacin recorded 2:16:13.
