MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5 earthquake struck Bukidnon early Tuesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
State seismologists then warned residents of affected areas that damage and aftershocks are possible due to the quake.
Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at 5:44 a.m. with its epicenter located three kilometers northeast of Kalilangan, Bukidnon. The tectonic earthquake’s depth of focus was three kilometers, it added.
Phivolcs also said that the temblor registered strength of up to Intensity V, which is classified as “strong” as it can be experienced indoors and outdoors and with “vibration… felt like a passing of [a] heavy truck.”
Based on the Phivolcs’ report, the following Intensities were recorded in these areas:
- Intensity V – Amai Manabilang, Lanao del Sur
- Intensity IV – Kalilangan, Bukidnon; Kapatagan, Malabang, and Wao, Lanao del Sur;
- Barira, and Matanog, Maguindanao; City of Cotabato
- Intensity III – Damulog, Dangcagan, Don Carlos, Kadingilan, Libona, Maramag,
- Pangantucan, Quezon, and Talakag, Bukidnon
- Intensity II – Cabanglasan, Lantapan, City of Malaybalay, San Fernando, and City of
- Valencia, Bukidnon; City of Cagayan De Oro
- Intensity I – Malitbog, Bukidnon; Villanueva, Misamis Oriental
