LEGAZPI CITY — Heavy rains which poured Sunday morning (Dec. 18) have triggered flooding and landslides in several villages in Camarines Sur province.

Luzena Bermeo, head of Environment, Disaster Management and Emergency Response Office, said in a report that 15 villages from the towns of Caramoan, Goa, Lagonoy, Presentacion, San Jose, Tinambac and Bombon were affected by flooding as of 3 p.m.

Several roads and bridges were also impassable to vehicles in Lupi, Lagonoy, Goa and Calabanga.

A landslide blocked part of the Lagonoy-Presentation Road in Barangay (village) San Sebastian in Lagonoy town but the road is still passable to vehicles.

Bermeo said three families or 13 persons were evacuated in Barangay Bagacay in Tinambac town while nine families or 32 persons in Barangay Sta. Maria in Lagonoy town had to leave their homes.

Camarines Sur Governor Vincenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte placed the province under “red alert” status, which activated the emergency operations center.

Villafuerte earlier ordered pre-emptive evacuation of residents in high-risk areas, no-sailing policy and prohibition of activities near coastal areas and rivers.

The Philippine Coast Guard station in the province also suspended sea travel for small crafts with 250 gross tonnages or less due to rough to very rough sea conditions.

In a rainfall advisory, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in Southern Luzon warned of moderate to heavy rains in Catanduanes and portions of Camarines Sur due to the Shear line.

Disaster officials were advised to monitor the weather condition, Pagasa said.
