Reds want Joma Sison buried in PH

LUCENA CITY — The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on Saturday, Dec. 17, declared its support for the wish of various groups and individuals to bury its departed founder and top rebel leader Jose Maria “Joma” Sison in the country.
Marco Valbuena, CPP public information officer, said in online interview, that Sison’s remains or ashes should be returned to the country “in accordance to his wishes as a Filipino and for them (groups and individuals) to give their last respect and farewell to the man they consider their teacher and inspiration in the revolution.”
Valbuena said the CPP has been coordinating with Sison’s family in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
Sison, 83, died in a hospital in Utrecht on Friday, Dec. 16, at 8:40 p.m., Philippine time.
Ang Bayan, the CPP news outlet, did not provide further information on the cause of Sison’s death.
Sison has lived in self-exile in Europe ever since peace talks with the government bogged down in 1987.
