MANILA, Philippines — More than a week before Christmas, the Philippine Coast Guard said that it is now on heightened alert in preparation for the Yuletide season, where an influx of passengers are expected in ports.
Starting Thursday, the PCG in a statement, said it has already conducted heightened vessel inspections, augmented the number of port personnel to ensure security, and provided personal help desks in various seaport terminals.
Coast Guard personnel are also ordered to perform patrols and prepare deployable response groups and contingency plans, like providing enough life vests for maritime incidents and emergencies.
The heightened alert status of PCG will last until January 7, 2023.
