BACOLOD CITY — A Christmas tree of an artist in Barangay Mansilingan here was adorned with ornaments depicting whimsical elves and fairies.

Carlin Javelona Martir, a painter who is also into theater, said she has collected the ornaments on her 12-foot Christmas tree for about 10 years.

The fairies and elves look like they are from an enchanted world that Martir still has not left even if she is all grown up.

“This year’s tree is my poetry of emotions and a canvas of self-expression,” she said.

Her late mother, Linda Javelona, is the inspiration behind her putting up a Christmas tree every year.

When she was small, Martir used to watch her mother decorate their Christmas tree in fascination.

“The smell of the Christmas decorations, the atmosphere and music reminds her of her mother,” she said.

Although she gets a bit emotional putting up her tree, Martir said Christmas is a happy time of the year.

She said aside from the elves and fairies that she purchased during her travels, others are gifts from friends and relatives.

“Since I was small. I have always been fascinated with elves and fairies,” Martir said.
