MANILA, Philippines — The powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) on Tuesday confirmed the ad-interim appointment of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) advocate Susan “Toots” Ople as the Secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
The CA committee on labor, employment, social welfare, and migrant workers deliberated on and recommended Ople’s appointment for confirmation.
Last September, the CA bypassed the appointment of Ople and 13 other Cabinet secretaries.
Ople and the others had to be reappointed to their posts and re-take their oaths before President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Another CA panel also discussed the appointment of Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla, but the hearing was suspended. Thus the confirmation of his appointment was deferred.
