MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has ordered boosting its campaign against overloaded vehicles starting Thursday.

In a statement, the LTO said the move is part of the advocacies of its newly-installed chief, Jay Art Tugade, on road safety. It is the first directive of Tugade following his appointment.

Thursday’s amplified drive helped LTO enforcers from its Central Office and Region 3 office to apprehend 15 overloaded trucks as of 12:04 p.m in Tabang, Guiguinto, and Bulacan.

The LTO said the trucks violated Republic Act 8794 or the Anti-Overloading Act of 2000.

Three more vehicles were caught violating the provisions of Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code and were promptly issued tickets.

“We will continue to build up on our objective of ridding our roads of overloaded trucks because they present direct danger against other vehicles plying our roads. Definitely, our operations against overloaded vehicles will continue without letup so [that] violators will learn to respect our laws on road safety,” LTO chief Tugade said in the statement.
