MANILA, Philippines — The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and the northeast monsoon or “amihan” are expected to bring isolated rain showers across the country on Tuesday, said the state weather bureau.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the northeast monsoon is affecting Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region.

Meanwhile, southern Mindanao is forecast to have partly cloudy skies with isolated rains due to the ITCZ, said Pagasa.

“Dalawang major system po ang nakakaapekto sa ating bansa. Makikita nga natin itong northeast monsoon, o hanging amihan na nakakaapekto sa may northern Luzon, habang itong intertropical convergence zone o ITCZ naman ay nakakaapekto sa may southern Mindanao,” said Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina.

(Two major systems are affecting the country. We see the northeast monsoon or the “amihan” wind affecting northern Luzon, while the intertropical convergence zone or ITCZ is affecting southern Mindanao).

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will also experience isolated rains with partly cloudy skies due to localized thunderstorms, Badrina said. He added that no low pressure areas or tropical cyclones are forecast to enter the Philippine area of responsibility until the weekend.

For areas affected by severe thunderstorms, Pagasa warned of possible landslides or flash floods.

Pagasa listed the following temperature ranges for Tuesday:

  • Metro Manila — 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio — 17 to 24 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag — 24 to 32 degrees Celsius
