DOH logs 9,069 COVID infections from Nov. 7 to 13; 43% higher than previous week

DOH registers 9,069 COVID infections from Nov. 7 to 13

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said it registered 9,069 total infections of COVID-19 from November 7 to 13, which is higher than the cases recorded the previous week.

In its latest weekly report on Monday, DOH said the total cases translated to a daily average of 1,296 which was 43 percent higher than what was recorded from October 31 to November 6, at 907.

Despite the increase, only six or 0.07 percent of the total cases were tagged as severe or critical, bringing the active number of severe or critical cases to 613.

An additional 113 deaths were also added to the country’s COVID-19 death toll — 41 of which occurred from October 31 to November 13, while the rest were backlogs recorded as early as September 1, 2020.

Non-ICU utilization rate also rose to 25.8 from 24.3 percent. ICU-utilization rate, on the other hand, is now at 21.3 from 20.6 percent.

In terms of the progress in vaccination against COVID-19, fully-vaccinated individuals are now 73,644,364 (94.29 percent of target population), with 62,236 new vaccinations, while individuals with booster shots, now total 20,760,526 after 109,323 additional individuals were inoculated in the same period.

The higher number of infections came a month after the health department detected the XBB Omicron subvariant and XBC variant of COVID-19 — both are believed to be highly immune-evasive, with the XBB tagged as the main driving force for the recent COVID-19 surge in Singapore, and the XBC being a combination of the BA.2 sublineage of the Omicron and Delta variants
