14-year-old boy saved from drowning in Manila Bay

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Saturday said their personnel saved a 14-year-old boy from drowning in Manila Bay.

The PCG personnel of BRP Melchora Aquino, which was docked in the Port Area, found the boy 400 meters away from the vessel at around 2:00 pm on Friday.

The child, who was a resident of Quiapo, Manila was holding onto a styrofoam box and plastic bottles which kept him afloat.

The personnel immediately deployed a rigid hull inflatable float to save the child from drowning.

According to the victim, he was swept away by a strong current while swimming in Manila Bay.

The child’s wounds were treated by the PCG and he was brought to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, whose personnel accompanied him back to his residence.
