Visit of Miss Earth 2022 candidates to Albay seen to boost tourism

LIGAO CITY — The city government will be hosting one of the pre-pageant activities for Miss Earth 2022 ahead of the coronation night in Metro Manila.

Organizers said 24 candidates would visit Albay province, including this city, from Nov. 21–22 for the preliminary competition.

“This is a big break for tourism, especially having these beauty title holders from different countries,” Mayor Fernando Gonzalez said in an interview.

He said Ligao is the “perfect choice” to hold the event, considering the growing environmental awareness among the locals.

“We can introduce them to mountain climbing on Mt. Masaraga, a tour in Kawa-Kawa natural park and a visit to white sand beaches and the mangrove plantation,” Gonzalez said.

Herbie Aguas, director of the Department of Tourism in Bicol, agreed that hosting the pre-pageant activity would help promote tourism in Albay and the entire Bicol region.

Lt. Col. Joseph Bagsao, Ligao City police chief, said the venue for the Miss Earth event had been secured and that an augmentation force from Albay police would be tapped if necessary to beef up the security measures. INQ
