Task force formed to probe killing of police official in Cagayan
BAGUIO CITY – The Cagayan police on Wednesday formed a special investigation task force following the ambush of a police major in Abulug town Monday night.
Police Brigadier General Steve Ludan, Cagayan Valley regional police chief, said the task force would look deeper into the killing of Police Major Rafael Tangonan, who was assigned at the Philippine National Police regional finance service office in Cagayan Valley.
Police Colonel Julio Gorospe Jr., Cagayan provincial police director, said in a statement that he talked with the Abulug police and the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Unit to track down the killers and the mastermind.
Tangonan was driving his vehicle along the national road on Monday at around 8 p.m. near a hardware store in Barangay (village) Libertad when one of the gunmen overtook his car and repeatedly shot him.
Tangonan died while being taken to hospital in Luna, Apayao.

Further investigation is ongoing.
